…to the website for Holywell-cum-Needingworth History, and our Local History Group.
Holywell--Needingworth is a village in Huntingdonshire, which is now part of Cambridgeshire. It comprises two settlements, both of whose history goes back before 1000 AD. Its population in 1801 was 623 and in 2001 was 2500. More about the village in general will be found here.
Although this website is currently managed by just one person (Peter Cooper), I have had inputs from lots of people in the village (and from outside) for which I am very grateful. I am hoping that eventually others will be able to take a more active part in contributing to and managing it.
Please feel free to have a look around at the website, but it is very much a work in progress. I have a lot more information than I am able to show on this website, and more information is becoming available all the time. You will find lots of gaps where I hope to be able to add things. You will also find that the information that is here gets updated from time to time, so do pop back when you can. If you would like to receive our occasional newsletter, telling you about updates etc., then please do let us know.
There are sections about the village (including its buildings), and the people of the village. There are also sections containing “media“, i.e. photographs, documents, interviews etc. relevant to the village, subjects, and also information about the sources of what you find here.
I have put a section about the “project” (under the About heading), partly in case anyone is interested in how it has been done, but mostly in order to encourage participation. Please do contribute if you can, and you will find there are lots of ways to do it. I do not know what will appear in the miscellany section , but the first is a series of presentations about historic events and people in Holywell-cum-Needingworth. Finally the about section has stuff about the website itself, the project as a whole, as well as technical stuff, searches and useful links.
Besides enhancing the website, and adding people and more information about them, I hope to be posting articles to the website that you may find interesting. These can be found in the “” under the relevant menu heading (Village, People, Media, Subjects, Sources, Miscellany, as well as the Project Blog). They are also available combined via the Combined Blogs menu item (under the Home Menu).
Note that because of increasing spam controls we use the old name of Holywell with Needingworth for the village name in emails.Back to the top of page
If you wish to comment on anything in this website you will need to provide a name and email address, but otherwise you are free to explore the site anonymously.
You can provide a general comment in the Guest Book (this will be seen by others who visit the website), or by using the Contact form (this is more private, and is also a way to let me have any photos, articles or other information).
You can provide a more specific comment on a post or page using the comment form below the post or page (if there is one). Note that this will be seen by others who visit the website.
You can provide a more specific comment on a Person within the TNG part of the site using the "Suggest" tab. Information on which individual you are referencing is automatically attached to the message when you make a suggestion this way. This is not seen by other visitors to the site, but I will add any appropriate information to the offline database, and thence to the website when it is next updated.
However you do it, I look forward to hearing from you.
A blog (a truncation of the expression web log) is a discussion or informational site published on the World Wide Web and consisting of discrete entries ("posts") typically displayed in reverse chronological order (the most recent post appears first).
