Joseph William Lister in WW1


Joseph was the youngest child of the family, he was baptised the 17 January 1889 in St Ives. He worked as a rope maker with Robb’s of St Ives, and Married Elizabeth Cox in 1910 who already had a child. They had their own daughter in 1910. It is possible that Joseph’s wife died in 1914.

PoppyJoseph was in the 4th Bedfordshire regiment, private 18552, he was killed 30 October 1917. He is remembered on the Tyne Cot Memorial, Ypres, Belgium, on panel 48-50 and 162 A. He is also remembered on the St Ives memorial. Susan Jane married Robert Charles Bridgeman at Norwich in 1897. No war record has been found for him.

Hunts Post 9th November 1917

Pte Joseph Lister of Prospect Place, St. Ives has been killed in action, the sad news being received by his wife on Wednesday evening. This soldier has seen a lot of active service. In private life he was employed at Mr. S Robb’s rope works in East Street, St. Ives. He leaves a widow and four young children.
