Old Maps

You can find here several different types of old map. Click on each to see what it contains, and click on the toggle again to close it up. Note that clicking on most images takes you to the relevant website in a new tab, opens a larger version of the image also in a new tab, or enables you to scroll through a gallery of images. If you want a book with some of these in, see here.

NLS iconAlthough NLS (the National Library of Scotland) have a full collection of Scottish maps, surprisingly they do have several years of (out of copyright) Ordnance Survey six inch and one inch maps covering England.

These are links to those that cover our village.
If you click on a thumbnail each will open in a new tab focused on our village, and you can move around them by grabbing and pulling, zooming in and out. You can even print copies. If you want to explore the full NLS collection click on the NLS icon or here. With thanks to the Ordnance Survey and the National Library of Scotland.

NLS georeferencedIf you want to see the six inch maps from around 1900 superimposed on modern maps then click here (use the slider to change the balance).
